March 6

A group of Dutch Resistance fighters.

Lt. Gen. Hanns A. Rauter.
On March 6, 1945 Dutch Resistance fighters attempt to hijack a truck in Apeldoorn, Holland, mistakenly ambush SS officer Lt. Gen. Hanns Rauter. In the following week the SS execute 263 Dutch in retaliation. The Dutch Resistance had been giving the Germans more and more problems as the war went on. This was the last straw. Rauter lived but hundreds of Dutch and Dutch Jews suffered the consequences. Rauter would later be tried in Nuremburg in 1949 and was executed for war crimes.
